Meet The Team

Leonard Otuonye Ugbajah
Leonard is an accomplished professional with close to 20 years of professional experience in legal practice, international development consulting, and policy advisory. His expertise covers competition and consumer protection law, sector regulation trade and regional integration in Africa, business environment reforms, natural resource governance, strategic communication, project development in the on-grid renewable energy market, defence equipment procurement, and real estate development. He has provided technical assistance and capacity building as a consultant on projects funded by various international development partners such as UK-FCDO (formerly DFID) the European Union, GIZ, and UNIDO, across several African countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Rwanda, Malawi, etc. In the public sector, Leonard has served as a Senior Legislative Aide (SLA) in the Nigerian Senate; Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Ease of Doing Business to a former Governor of Imo State; Lead of Subnational Ease of Doing Business at the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC); and member of several committees in the public sector.
Leonard is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Centre for Trade and Business Environment Advocacy (CTBA), a not-for-profit entity involved in research and advocacy on trade policy and business environment reforms; Thematic Lead for Trade at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group – National Assembly Business Environment Roundtable (NESG-NASSBER) which provides pro-bono technical assistance to Nigeria’s National Assembly and other public sector bodies on trade-related legislation and policy; the Resident Rep of CUTS International in Nigeria and a non-executive Director of CUTS West Africa Regional Centre (Accra).
Leonard is a lawyer called to the Nigerian bar. He holds a postgraduate diploma in International Business Law and a master’s degree (LLM) in Competition Law both from the University of London. He also holds a Master’s in International Affairs and Strategic Studies (MIASS) degree from the postgraduate school of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), in addition to numerous certifications in various specialist fields of law and policy.
Adejumobi Fashola
Adejumobi Fashola obtained an MBA from Grenoble Graduate School of Business, France, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Business from MIT/Colombia School of Business.
He is a multi-faceted and multi-dimensional professional with extensive experience in several business areas such as Digital Business, Investment Promotion & Facilitation, Public Private Dialogue, Process Mapping, Political Economy Analysis, Advocacy Strategy, Facilitation, Scenario Planning, Climate Finance and Public Private Partnership.
Adejumobi also has extensive experience in developing and managing strategic stakeholders for digital business initiatives. He has also participated in change management initiatives to introduce digital technologies to different organizations. He has proven expertise in understanding the challenges of delivering digital business models. He facilitated public-private dialogues in conjunction with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on business environment issues affecting the introduction and implementation of the Cashless Policy. He guided SMEDAN to develop a digital money market for MSMEs.
Adejumobi led a team to introduce digital payment technologies to selected local government areas in Lagos State. He has also provided advisory services to an international private equity firm conducting due diligence on a Nigerian Agriculture Startup. He has also contributed to international studies on digital platforms and gender in collaboration with Lagos Business School and Caribou Digital. He has contributed to a study on work and digital platforms for Lagos Business School and the International Labour Organization. He has managed a cross-country study in Zambia, Kenya and Rwanda on digital payment mechanisms and conducted several political economy analysis studies on the different aspects of the Extractives Sector to inform intervention planning and sector reforms.
He has also worked as an Investment Promotion and Facilitation expert on the national and sub-national levels, assisting partners to strengthen their internal processes and procedures to attract investors into viable economic sectors. He provided support to the core team of government officials to develop the Nigerian compendium of incentives. Adejumobi also has practical and proven experience in various stages of PPP in the transport, industrial park and water supply sectors. He has over 20 years of work experience with firms such as Phillips Consulting, Adam Smith International, Overseas Development Institute, Oxford Policy Management DAI International, and Africa Public Private Partnership Advisory.


Aniekan Ukpe
Aniekan is an experienced international trade law and business environment reform expert, with expertise in WTO law, private sector development, trade-capacity building, policy research and analysis. He regularly provides technical assistance to the private sector, agencies of the Government of Nigeria, development agencies in Nigeria, and the ECOWAS Commission, on WTO Law, policy formulation and implementation and trade facilitation. He is also experienced in delivering bespoke legal advisory services to businesses involved in cross-border business transactions.
Aniekan was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2004 and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb), UK and the Society of International Economic Lawyers. He holds an LLM (with distinction) from the University of Dundee, UK – where he was an Ibrahim Shihata Fellow – and a PhD in International Trade Law from Wageningen University & Research, the Netherlands. Aniekan is an award-winning author and a regular speaker/resource person at several international Conferences/Workshops and has published several scholarly articles in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
